A special visit:
Dr. Jeronimo Sequice from Beira

In May 2025, the Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Intensive Care at LMU University Hospital in Munich had the honour of welcoming Dr. Jeronimo Sequice from Beira, Mozambique, for a two-week internship.

The connection with Dr. Jeronimo goes back to a long-standing professional exchange between mates4health team members working at the  LMU University Hospital and the Department of Paediatrics in Beira. Building on this trusted relationship, mates4health was delighted to support his visit and help make it possible.

During his stay - funded through a GTP scholarship and mates4health - Dr. Jeronimo attended the GTP Annual Meeting, joined a tropical paediatrics course, and observed daily practice in the Paediatric Cardiology and Neonatology Departments of the LMU University Hospital. He gained valuable insights, such as the importance of hygiene standards and noise reduction, which he hopes to adapt for his home hospital.

A special highlight was the opportunity to be present in the delivery room during cesarean sections and complicated births - a standard practice in high-income countries, but still uncommon in many low-income settings, including Mozambique.

Alongside the clinical exchange, there was also time for discussions about the future of our joint work in Beira, as well as for moments of social connection with colleagues and friends.

Hosting Dr. Jeronimo was both a pleasure and an enrichment. His visit underlines mates4health commitment to strengthening local health expertise in partnership - and we look forward to continuing this collaboration to improve child health in Mozambique.
